Minecraft
Grass blocks, creepers, TNT and diamonds, at a scale you can eat cake off.
Best for ages 5 to 12
Minecraft is the easiest theme to stretch, because the whole world is squares. A green and brown table reads as a grass block before anything else goes on it, and red and diamond blue do the rest.
The pixel look forgives a homemade cake: square layers, green frosting on top, a creeper face in fondant. Cardboard boxes painted as TNT or ore blocks make free decorations and double as a building game, and a treasure hunt for “diamonds” is the activity that never fails at this age.
